Kiln-dried firewood in Stowe — 16 inches, dry enough to actually heat
Wet wood is a tax on a cold house. It hisses, it creosotes the chimney, and a ski-week guest who “just wanted a fire” spends the evening opening windows. Stowe Home Care Maintenance buys log-length, processes it in house to 16 inches, and kiln-dries it on our shop. The target is 15% moisture or less.
Kiln time is the bottleneck. Lock a load before the queue is full. Call (802) 888-7736.
This is property care, not a gas-station bundle. Local since 1980.
The problems kiln-dried wood actually solves
Wood that looks seasoned and still will not burn
Air-dried stacks in a Vermont yard stall. “Seasoned” on a Facebook post is not a moisture reading. Kiln time on our shop is how we get to 15% or less — heat, not steam.
A second home that sits all week
You arrive Friday. The stove is the heat and the mood. A wet pile in the shed is a project. A kiln-dried, 16-inch stack by the door is a fire in ten minutes. Pair delivery with a house check on /projects/property-management if you are not here to take the truck.
Ordering in January
That is how you get leftover wet wood and a shrug. Kiln capacity is the bottleneck. If you burn, get on the list now — not after the first cold weekend.
What you are actually buying
16-inch, processed here
We do not resell mystery rounds. Log-length in, 16-inch out, in house. Tell us if your insert needs something else.
Kiln-dried on the shop
Target 15% moisture or less. That is the spec. If you want a reading on the load, ask when you book.
100% in-house processing
Our team handles cutting, splitting, and kiln-drying in house for quick-to-light, clean-burning wood with low smoke. Wood is protected from Vermont rain, snow, and mud so it arrives ready to burn. Rely on us from the first frost through late spring.
2026–2027 premium kiln-dried firewood program
All firewood is 100% premium mixed hardwood, cut to 16" lengths, and kiln-dried to about 15% moisture for an effortless, high-heat burn.

Optional stacking

Areas we serve
Stowe is home base: mountain drives, second homes, inns, and HOAs. The trucks start here.
Waterbury is second-home country off the mountain — same freeze, same empty-week risk, same crew.
Morrisville is the village; Morristown is the town. Commercial lots, year-round houses, and drives that take plow abuse all winter.
Hyde Park drives are long and rural. Washouts and winter access are the usual calls.
Elmore is camp and seasonal-house country — properties that go dark between weekends.
Bolton and Richmond sit west toward the gap. We take jobs that fit the Stowe-based route, not every driveway in Chittenden.
Waitsfield, Fayston, and Moretown are Mad River towns we already run for snow, drainage, and house checks. Stowe owns the headline; these are towns the crew actually reaches.
If you are on the county line, call (802) 888-7736. Driveway and route fit matter more than the map.
Firewood FAQ
What does 15% moisture actually mean in a stove?
It means the wood will burn, not steam. Wet or “seasoned in the yard” loads waste heat, creosote the chimney, and fill the house with smoke when a ski-week guest lights a fire. We kiln-dry on our shop and aim for 15% moisture or less. That is the difference between heat and a wet hiss.
Why 16-inch lengths?
That is the length we process to, in house, from log-length we mill here. It fits the stoves and inserts most Stowe houses actually have. If you need a different length, say so when you order; do not assume a dump-pile of random rounds.
Do you sell half cords?
To guarantee exact measurements, clean processing, storage, and transport, we standardize on 1/3-cord face-cord units. 1 face cord is $225. 2 face cords are $375 — that is 2/3 of a cord, slightly more than a traditional half cord, at a discounted bundle rate.
Why face cords instead of half cords like other sellers?
Standard “half cords” sold elsewhere are often thrown loosely into a truck bed, which leads to inaccurate quantities and dirty wood mixed with mud or debris. We use clean 1/3-cord steel totes, so you get correct volume, no dirt, and consistent kiln drying.
Why is kiln-dried wood better than green or seasoned firewood?
Our wood is heat-treated in our kiln to about 15% moisture. That means no bugs, no mold, it lights without a kindling struggle, and it burns hotter with less smoke and less creosote in the chimney.
How do delivery fees work?
A flat rate per trip based on your location, covering two-person loading labor, fuel, and equipment so the wood arrives clean, dry, and on schedule. Local (Stowe, Morrisville) $50. Waterbury hub $75. Lamoille & Washington Counties $105. Chittenden County and extended regions $135 with a 1-cord minimum. Each trip is up to 1 full cord.
Do you stack?
Yes, on request. Two-person crew, $75 per 30 minutes on site, billed on actual time. Call (802) 888-7736.
How do I order and when will my wood arrive?
Standard deliveries begin in early November, with priority for existing clients. Limited expedited delivery is available before that rollout. Call or text (802) 888-7736 or email pm@shcm.co to lock a priority slot.
